Kyun Jung

is an architect who combines creativity, technology, and collaboration to create a meaningful impact in the world.

Most recently, Ki-Youn co-founded EON.health, a longevity consumer solution based on data computing platform, to solve humanity’s aging problem

Prior to this, she created, developed, and implemented an AIoT (AI+IoT) solution platform for LG Electronics’ smart home platform for the last 5 years, which is a $20B business. Throughout the journey from ideation to developing on-device AI semiconductor processor chips, persuading to change all existing home appliances’ platforms, and shifting their business model from hardware selling to solution selling, she took on the role of an intrapreneur. After all the success, she decided to start a new journey in healthcare to solve aging problems.

Throughout the last decade, she has gained experience in the System-on-Chip (SoC) industry, starting from multimedia processing during the era of multimedia streaming from 2003 to working on on-device AI chips as AI emerged as a primary focus from 2017.

In the hardworking Korean corporate society, she was a rare female engineer in the semiconductor industry. Nevertheless, she was selected as an outstanding core-talented pool at LG Electronics for 12 consecutive years and nurtured as a next-generation leader. Thanks to this, she not only participated in task forces to discover various new businesses for the whole LG Electronics’ business but also received opportunities for education and experience in people management from her junior years, in addition to technical leadership. This led her to MIT to pursue an MBA degree through sponsorship.

Verticals

Mobile

During the feature phone era (prior to smartphones), she started her first career at a leading tech startup that provided major camera and video processing chips for LG and Samsung mobile phones. With the emergence of smartphones, she believed that it was more appropriate to develop chips in the vertical belonging to a company with a system rather than a fabless processor company, based on trend prediction. Therefore, she decided to move to LG Electronics, which values employee’s talent development and has a culture that emphasizes it, under very favorable incentive conditions.

In the field of multimedia processing in the rapidly growing and constantly changing mobile industry globally, she had the experience of developing cutting-edge technology through fast cycles of technology research and product development, and commercializing it. (2004-2015)

Smart Home / IoT

When she moved to LG Electronics, she had a 10-year plan ultimately to create a new innovative unified platform for its traditional home appliance business further  the mobile industry. Fortunately, she exceeded what she had planned after 11 years.

Through all of these processes, she established a business/ product/ technology strategy that is innovative to move forward to the future without settling for the current status of being the best performing and dominant Global No. 1 Business, while also increasing the profitability of legacy business.

Through a four-year process of engaging all the technology leaders and product managers who hold the power in traditional ways, she realized her vision. In 2022 when she came to MIT for an MBA, LG announced a significant change in business strategy within Korea. After graduating with an MBA, she returned to Korea and during the process of resigning from LG Electronics, LG announced a strategic innovation in North America and globally in July 2023.

Electric Vehicle

In the middle of her journey, she also obtained a technical certificate for electric vehicle system development (software and hardware), Functional Safety Engineer (Automotive, ISO 26262) by TÜV Rheinland Group, which helped her to understand the concept of a conservative system for security and safety. (2016)

She developed expertise in implanting complex technology systems from the mobile industry into the new innovative vertical, the electric vehicle industry, such as how to develop criteria to evaluate technological confidence levels from scratch in a whole new industry.
